Gas Fitter Class B Licence in Manitoba

The Office of the Fire Commissioner - Inspection and Technical Services Manitoba is the Manitoba Government agency responsible for Licensing of gas fitters in the province. The Province of Manitoba requires that only registered contractors and licensed employees of contractors with gas registrations may install or work on a gas appliance or any gas works. In keeping with the rules in other provinces gas fitters are sorted into degrees of certification training. The Gas Fitter Class B certification is the intermediate level for Gas Fitters - Technicians in the province of Manitoba.

Gas Fitter “B”: A gas fitter holding this designation may install gas equipment for a single appliance that does not exceed 400,000 BTU per hour. This means that the total gas supplied to the installation point may exceed 400,000 BTU per hour however no single unit can be rated over 400,000 BTU per hour. The exam for the Gas Fitter Class B certificate is based on the books 10 to 24 of the CSA Standard modules (24 books), the code books CAN/CSA-B149.1-15 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, the B149.2.10 Propane Storage and Handling Code, MB Safety Standards Act, Safety Standards General Regulation and the Gas Safety Regulation and other related provincial regulations and codes.
